Quinssa Coaches and Travel

Coaches

We arrange coach trips to Premiership, Anglo Welsh away matches, as well as away matches against English and Welsh teams in the European competition.  We have been known to organise a coach further afield to Paris and Dublin.

The departure point for our coaches is always the Twickenham Stoop.  We have a pick up point in Bracknell for coaches going to Exeter, Bath, Gloucester, Bristol (when they are in the Premiership) and any destination in Wales.  We can look at other pick up points on the way to our destination, as long as they are on our route to our destination.  We will either head straight to the ground, or will occasionally stop at a pub nearby for lunch and drinks before heading to the ground.   We will leave fairly soon after the final whistle and head back to the Stoop.

We can purchase match tickets for anyone using the coaches so that the coach group are all sat together (although this is not obligatory).

Entertainment on the coach includes (but doesn’t have to be limited to) DVDs of previous matches, music, guess the score and the occasional raffle.

Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the coach to Wasps on Sunday 22 October due to insufficient demand.

Our next coach will be:

** As there is an Autumn International match at HQ (Eng v Samoa), we will stay in Bath to watch the

England match after our game has finished.

Please note that we will not be running a coach to Newcastle on 23 December.

We will add coaches to away games from January onwards nearer to December and once dates have been confirmed.

Match tickets

As there is a change in the way match tickets are issued to the away team this season, we will need to have match ticket information slightly earlier than in previous seasons.  This will explain why we have set a deadline for requesting the coach travel and match ticket packages.  Once this deadline has passed, you will need to purchase your own match ticket.

Please note that:

  • the coach team does not purchase match tickets for non-coach users;
  • it is of course not an obligation to purchase your match ticket through us to travel on the coach; and
  • if you have to cancel your trip after a match ticket has been purchased (e.g. after the deadline set above), the cost of the match ticket will still need to be paid for unless you are able to find someone willing to buy the match ticket.  It is not the responsibility of the coach team to re-sell the ticket for you but we can of course provide assistance; and
  • in the event that we operate more than one coach, we may not be able to provide the option of purchasing match tickets with coach places – if this is the case, you will need to purchase your own match ticket.

How to book:

Please email us at coaches@quinssa.org.uk, providing us with how many places you require, whether you (and the number of travellers you are booking for) are Quinssa members or not, and let us know if you require match tickets and the number required.

Once you have reserved your coach place and match ticket and your request has been acknowledged, you will not hear from us until we send out an email with final details in the week leading up to the game.

If we need to cancel the running of the coach due to insufficient numbers, we will let you know as soon as possible to give you time to make alternative arrangements should you still wish to attend the match.

Payment of coach places and match tickets

We take payment of coach places and match tickets on the day – by cash or cheque.  In the event that we are able to run more than one coach, we will request payment in advance.

And finally some FAQs

Why don’t you run coaches for matches on Friday evenings?

  • Demand has been very low in previous seasons;
  • Not everyone travelling on the coach comes from the Twickenham area and may need to use public transport after their return from the game.  A late return back to the Stoop could potentially result in last trains/buses being missed; and
  • Work commitments of the coach organisers.
  • Please note however that we will offer to run coaches to any quarter final, semi final and final, should these fall on a Friday evening.

Why don’t you run smaller coaches if you don’t have enough for a 49 seater coach?

  • We have previously looked into the feasibility of running a smaller coach if there is not enough demand for a larger coach.
  • We believe that it is not value for money to run a smaller coach, i.e. it will be more expensive to run given the smaller numbers.
  • The most expensive cost to run a coach is not the coach hire itself, but the cost of the driver.
  • To be noted that there is no toilet facility on the smaller coach

Why do you leave the ground so early after the match has finished?

  • We appreciate that not all travellers live in the Twickenham area and have a fair distance to travel once we return to the Stoop;
  • We try to consider those who travel by public transport to and from the Stoop – the later the return may cause difficulties with public transport;
  • We try to consider the driver’s needs (e.g. number of hours worked).

Why do we have to sing from a song sheet?

  • You don’t!  It’s an urban myth! (well it is something that was offered a long time ago, but not now).
  • We try to provide some sort of entertainment (coach facilities permitting) along the lines of a DVD of a previous match (wins only), music of some form if all the coach wants to listen to music on the return.
  • We are open to any suggestions on entertainment – coach travellers are more than welcome to provide the entertainment.

If you have any queries about the coaches, please feel free to drop us an email at coaches@quinssa.org.uk.
