Programme Notes 2009/10
London Wasps
And the tries kept coming! For Quins at least, who seem to have learnt that attractive rugby is also winning rugby. The select but cold, groups of Quins’ supporters who made it to Leeds on a Friday night a few weeks ago were treated to some entertaining stuff with a closer than necessary final score. We were well received by the Leeds’ supporters and there was an interesting Q&A in the Long Bar after the match. It is a small measure of how far Leeds Carnegie have yet to travel within their own supporter base when only 5,000 showed up officially on the night and yet Leeds United could manage to draw 36,000 the following day for a match against Huddersfield. Perhaps there will be double that number here today and the opportunity to convert many rugby virgins to the joys of this game. Let there be tries and tackles to entertain us all.
A very warm welcome to the supporters of Wycombe Wasps today and of course to your team and management who will have shown up today anxious to dispel any rumours about it being too cold/wet/foggy/remote* to play. (* Delete as appropriate) Hopefully we can keep 15 players on the field all game and that home (as in London) advantage favours us.
We are all sad to hear of Jim Evans’ retirement from the game although it’s good to hear that his involvement with the club will continue in a technical capacity. We can look forward to his testimonial year next season. All best wishes from the members of Quinssa Jim.
Many thanks to everyone who sent in toys and gifts for the Quinssa 4th annual collection for the Shooting Star Hospice. The gifts were distributed by Quinssa and some of the players at their Christmas Party on 22nd December. A full report is to follow. As a result of their, and Etihad’s, generosity one lucky donor is in receipt of 2 Hospitality tickets for a Quins’ home game courtesy of Etihad.
The Quinssa Overseas Travel Club (aka John Hartley) has been planning for the away match in Toulouse and we have ordered match tickets for a large group of Quinssa members who are all sitting together in Stade Ernest Wallon. There are up to 183 of us going, all travelling by disparate methods but joining up for the match and, no doubt, somewhere convivial before and afterwards. We will be issuing information about how to get to and from the Stade (there are free buses, etc.). Should be a fun weekend. Keep an eye out for your weekly mailer for the latest news. Yet another benefit of Quinssa membership.
A reminder that the third annual Quinssa ‘6 Nations Dinner’ with Player Attendance and Live Band will take place at the Twickenham Stoop (King’s Bar, Etihad Stand) from 7.00pm until 11.30pm on Tuesday, 9th February 2010.
The evening will include: 3 course sit down meal. Player Host per table. Live Band. Complimentary wine on each table. Cash bar. Raffle in aid of the Academy. Supporters’ Awards. Free Parking at the Stoop. All this for only £55.00 per person!
Tickets are going fast so please contact Emma (rugbybird@quinssa.org.uk) for bookings and any queries.
The next away coach this season is to London Irish on Sunday 31st January. For bookings see us in the King’s Bar before home games at the Stoop or contact coaches@quinssa.org.uk
