Programme Notes 2009/10
Sale Sharks
You may recall that in my last set of notes I bemoaned the absence of tries in the current season and the need for a new supporters’ chant of “We Want Tries!” If the game against Glawster was anything to go by then my prayers were answered in abundance. Some tightening of the defence and a continuation of the exciting rugby we saw in that game will keep the crowds flocking to the Stoop and steady progress up the league rankings.
At the time of writing this I am about to set off for Leeds and what we all hope is another resounding victory. Caution however must remain our loyal friend given the somewhat strange results from many Premiership games this season. It’s never been truer that on the day any one team could beat any other team. Predicting results and scores is a mugs’ game which I rarely indulge in and even less so this year. I can predict with some certainty that there won’t be many Quins supporters there on a Friday night.
Today we make acquaintances with the Sharks who we will get to know quite well over the next month. Playing the same team 3 times in 4 weeks is a strange arrangement and not one to happen often thankfully. The only home meeting of the three is today so we need an emphatic win to take with us (twice) on the long road to Stockport. We could of course work on the same premise as the Pests and refuse to play either of the away games on the basis that it’s a bit muddy up there and the beer tastes funny. Somehow I don’t think we will. I am worried however that the Big Game 2 could be in jeopardy. Too much rain, a frost or confusion as to the location of London will see the Wycombe boys stuck on their coach all day ordering pizza and chips.
The Quinssa 4th annual collection of toys for the Shooting Star Hospice is now underway. As usual we are asking you for a suitable gift for the children at the Hospice and to drop it off at the Quinssa stand. Look at your mailer for more details. Presents can be dropped off today or at the Main Reception any day. One donation will win a prize donated by Etihad for match day hospitality for 2.
A reminder that the third annual Quinssa ‘6 Nations Dinner’ with Player Attendance and Live Band will take place at the Twickenham Stoop (King’s Bar, Etihad Stand) from 7.00pm until 11.30pm on Tuesday, 9th February 2010.
The evening will include: 3 course sit down meal. Player Host per table. Live Band. Complimentary wine on each table. Cash bar. Raffle in aid of the Academy. Supporters’ Awards. Free Parking at the Stoop. All this for only £55.00 per person!
