Programme Notes 2009/10

Newcastle Falcons

They say that it is better to travel in hope than to arrive and last Saturday was just such a day. With four wins in a row against Bath and our new DOR in charge for the first time we travelled to the West Country full of hope and some belief. This was soon dashed by the whistle of Mr Fox and a dynamic Bath pack that had us reeling in the terraces. A lesson in complete rugby followed and the score could easily have been far worse were it not for some stout defence and try-saving tackles. I for one will be voting for the repeal of the fox hunting ban!

Perhaps the only consolation from last weekend was that the teams below us also lost and by some considerable margins too. But we can’t rely on others to secure our future so games such as today’s take on the significance of “must-win” clashes. You need to be of good voice again so as to make the difference and ensure our safety margin is increased. The team really do appreciate your vocal and loud support.

Quinssa has been busy just lately and I’m happy to report on an event just passed and one to come soon.

Last Tuesday, 23rd March, over 160 Quinssa members packed the members' bar at the Stoop at our Meet the Management evening.  We were delighted to welcome Mark Evans and Conor O'Shea, who both gave us their words of wisdom regarding the club both on and off the pitch. Everyone was delighted to hear Conor's enthusiastic views on the future and his approach to his job as Director of Rugby at Quins.

Quinssa members can read the first part of Duncan's copious notes from the evening on CAW and the rest will be published over the course of the next few weeks. We are also pleased to say that the Quinssa raffle raised £485 for the Quinssa Academy Fund.  Thanks to everyone who participated.

Quinssa is delighted to announce its Summer Party this year will be held at the Twickenham Stoop Stadium on 5th June.

With entry fee of only £6 per head (children under 12 free), we will have use of the members’  bar, there will be lots of activities on the pitch and everyone gets a free meal from Ollie Kohn’s famous Jolly Hog & Sausage catering emporium.  This is going to be another fantastic Quinssa day out, so make sure you put it in your diary NOW!

For more information, or to make a provisional booking, head to the Quinssa Stand, situated in the Kings Bar under the Etihad Stand. Additional information is available at www.quinssa.org.

Wooden Spoon BikeFest – Saturday 19th June. - Wooden Spoon is organising a charity bike ride from lots of Rugby Grounds to Wootton Bassett Rugby Club in June this year.  Several Premiership clubs are taking part and Harlequins, never likely to shirk a challenge, is doing the longest ride of all – 106 miles.

But don’t let that put you off.  It should be a fun, if challenging, day out and you will be raising money for very worthwhile causes. Full details can be found here: http://www.spoonchallenges.com/rte.asp?id=343
