Programme Notes 2009/10
London Irish
At last it seems that our season has some legs and we can continue to build to a decent position in the Guinness Premiership although progress in the HC now seems very unlikely. Despite the loss to Toulouse it was a great game to witness and to appreciate the skills of those precocious Frenchmen.
The visit to Worcester last week was unusual in many ways. Whilst the hospitality of most Warrior supporters was as warm as ever there was a feeling of tension in the crowd and an almost hostile buzz towards the Quins’ players and fans. The posters on several forums last weekend seemed to have lost contact with the reality that is sport and the desire of teams to win matches. Reading many of the press reports afterwards I could find no reference to the outlandish claims that our team cheated. The press are hardly letting up on reminding everyone of our summer antics yet it seems that there is an automatic assumption among some rival supporters that we must have cheated because we are Quins!
I often feel “hard-done-by” after a losing game but this tends to wear off quite quickly and the thought of my work colleagues’ friendly banter exercises me more than any thoughts of revenge or hatred. It doesn’t diminish my passion or support but keeps the whole thing in perspective. The players really do appreciate the away support, as evidenced by them risking further verbal abuse from Worcester supporters to come across and thank the travelling Quins’ fans.?? ?
Today we welcome our near neighbours from Berkshire (The Not-Nots) who were our nemesis last season here at the Stoop. If revenge is needed then today would be a good starting point for the team to put right the wrongs they inflicted each time they visited us. Both teams have issues with injuries to key players so it might be the squad size that is significant this afternoon. Be loud and proud when you see the Quins’ players today and keep the place buzzing with positive vibes.
Don’t forget that today sees the re-opening of the “Quins Head” real ale venue under the new South stand. Many of you will be keen to sip a few of the alternative Greene King beers they have on offer there. Greene King are great supporters of Quinssa and they supply many valuable prizes for our raffles
The 9th February 2010 is when we will be holding our third annual 6 Nations Dinner at the Twickenham Stoop. A fantastic opportunity to meet with the players and enjoy a good value night out. Tickets should be available from today on the Quinssa stand but more info will follow soon.
If you haven’t renewed your membership for this season then you can do it today at our stand in the Etihad stand before the game. New members are also welcome to sign up at the same venue.
I’m keen to have photographs of supporters to accompany this article so if you’ve got some suitable ones then please send them to me at steve@quinssa.org.uk and see yourself and friends in the programme. Photos from away games are especially welcome.
The next away coach this season is to Northampton on 21st November. It is an early kick-off, 13.00, and we will be staying at Franklins Gardens after the match to watch the England v New Zealand game. For bookings see us in the Etihad stand before KO today or contact coaches@quinssa.org.uk
