Programme Notes 2009/10
Gloucester
Today we welcome the supporters of “Glawster” who are as passionate as we are in support of our team. They have suffered a less than convincing couple of seasons and the fortress in front of the Shed has been beaten into submission too many times just lately. Given their historic position near, or at the top of the table looking down on most of the rest of us all season this must be tough to take and the rumour mill abounds with speculation.
Anyway, enough sympathy for now, we have to be fired up today against them as we need the points more than they do. Last week’s win for our visitors at home to the Tigers will have boosted their morale but we can take some comfort from our loss last week because we scored some tries!
You remember what those are don’t you? Tries are supposed to be the essence of rugby football but they seem to have almost disappeared from the Premiership and the national team endeavours of late. A chant for the season should be “We Want Tries” if they keep hiding in the changing room all match. I find it particularly frustrating after the veritable feast of tries we saw last season. The danger is that new fans to the game will fade away if they don’t experience the sight of a well worked try or two each game.
The official opening of the Quins Head is today so make time to sample a pint or two of real ale behind the South Stand.
Our “Meet the Academy” evening was held last week. Tony Diprose and Howard Graham presented an interesting evening accompanied by almost all the young guys from the Academy. It was fascinating to learn more about these players of the future and the process of selection for the Academy.
The Quinssa 4th annual collection of toys for the Shooting Star Hospice is now underway. As usual we are asking you for a suitable gift for the children at the Hospice and to drop it off at the Quinssa stand. Look at your mailer for more details. Presents can be dropped off today or at the Sale game and also at the main reception any other time. One donation will win a prize donated by Etihad for match day hospitality for 2.
