Programme Notes 2005/6

Otley

Today we welcome the fans, management and players of Otley and hope that the result is a lot less close than our first encounter back in early September. Surprisingly our Powergen Trophy game was covered in many of the papers in length and that was certainly a refreshing change, that there is life outside of the Premiership.

The crowd was slightly disappointing, being about half of our usual figure. Early morning snow and yet more transport chaos were factors, along with the perception that it’s a second tier competition. However a final at Twickenham is always worth playing for and now we are just one game away from that.

Congratulations must go to the five lads who have gained selection for the national under 21 squad, it partly makes up for the lack of players in the senior reckoning at the moment. So whilst the present is a bit thin the future is a lot brighter. Mentions also need to be made of Simon Miall ever present so far this season and to last week’s man of the match Ceri Jones who has only a missed a couple of games through injury. It’s good to see Mark Lambert back in the mix of things after a horrid year.

Quinssa is the independent Quins supporter’s association. We are now just a couple of months shy of our third birthday. We are primarily an electronic organisation so we communicate with our members regularly by email, although we produce a digest of the mailings and send them out by snail mail for those that haven’t quite grasped the electronic highway. We have a website at Quinssa.org.uk where you can find out much of what is going on, that includes events, merchandise, travel information, our aims and much more. We also staff a desk in the main East stand bar right next to the stage (that’s the raised bit in the middle) where you can meet other fans, book coach travel and discuss the pertinent issues of the day.

Whilst on coach travel, now really is the time to consider attending some away matches, that’s if you haven’t done so already. We have had a great welcome everywhere we have gone this season, everybody plays in proper grounds, none of the football ground coldness in this division. Its proper club houses and clubs with rich and proud traditions. So it’s something to savour before it has gone. Quinssa run coaches to most away games, so with Newbury, Doncaster and Exeter all coming up why not try one of them. You can book by a variety of ways, these include via our website or at the desk before the game.

Our next big event is on January 31st and it’s the Academy evening. We clearly have a strong and well run Academy and this will be a further chance to hear about developments and how the Quinssa financial contributions are helping them. More details in the next programme or look on the website.

With last week’s game not being a season ticket affair I had new people on my left. Two young lads and their dad. The youngest of whom was sitting next to me. When he stood up he was still shorter than me when I was sitting down. The whole game he cheered, sang, danced, clapped and screamed. Brilliant, the future is in good hands!

If you haven’t walked around the ground recently can I recommend that you do so. There have been a few subtle changes here and there, the coffee from the place opposite the remodelled Mighty Quins village is recommended. There’s also a variety of information points around the ground which show where everything is, although I haven’t got a map to show you where they are!

So in closing, give our visitors a warm welcome, respect the opposition and the kickers, pop along to the Quinssa desk in the East stand, remember not to smoke, cheer your heads off and enjoy the game and the day to the full.
