Pertemps Bees

A happy new year to one and all, particularly to today’s visitors Pertemps Bees. We hope their supporters and management enjoy their day at London’s premier rugby club as much as we did at Sharmans Cross back in early September. The hospitality that day set the benchmark very high for the quality of welcome we have received at grounds this season.

So a new year starts with new resolutions, hopes and dreams. Where will we be in twelve months time? Things are certainly changing at the Stoop, perhaps next year we will be enjoying a double European away weekend with the RL arm of Quins? (Light touch paper, stand back and wait!)

Catching up on away games we recently beat Bedford, where the deceptive slope, it’s about eight foot from one corner to the opposite on, played a big part. Of the 46 points scored in the match, 37 came at one end. I gather one of our forwards was heard to say that it was like pushing the scrum up a hill ………… that’s because it was a slope, bless! Two games ago we journeyed to the deepest south west country for the first of our three encounters down there. Plymouth put up a fair old fight but in truth most of the second half was played in or near their twenty two. However the amount of development going on to the ground down there underlines their potential and aspirations, good luck to them.

Our first big event of the year is the Academy evening taking place Tuesday 31st January 7.30pm for 8pm. This promises to be a great evening with Tony Russ the Academy manager and Colin Osbourne the Academy Head Coach due to be there. They will be bringing a couple of the younger players with them and we will also be launching the summer exchange link with Natal Sharks. George Robson who went last summer should also be there. We’re still sorting out some minor details, like food etc, but mark the date in your diary now. More later.

There’s not many away coaches left now, so make sure you contact our coach supremo John either at the Quinssa desk before the game in the East stand or by visiting our website at quinssa.org.uk to book a place or two. They really are great fun and it’ll be another thing to cross off your life list along with swimming with dolphins and wrestling with aardvarks.

Everything you need to know about Quinssa, the independent supporter’s association for Harlequins rugby union arm, can be found at quinssa.org.uk. From there you can find “stuff”, I gather that’s yoof speak for information, links, aims, joining forms, superb merchandise and much much more. Or why not visit our desk in the east stand before the game, by the stage, we’re the pretty ones.

Lastly and in true teacherly fashion can I ask you to make full use of the ground facilities both before and after the game, make our visitors very welcome, respect the kickers and those around you, cheer as much as you can and most important of all, enjoy the game.

Happy New Year!
