Programme Notes 2005/6

Cornish Pirates

Today we welcome the supporters, management and team of the Cornish Pirates, formerly Penzance and Newlyn. Today’s game and the forthcoming away trips to Bedford and Plymouth will do much to shape our season. Pirates are undoubtedly a good side and we all expect a good game. I hope all our home fans will make the many Pirates welcome and that they go away from the Stoop with as many fond memories as we have had on our travels this season.

Did anybody spot this quote from our last programme “Today will be the toughest game we’ve had had so far” …  then proceeded to run in twelve tries! So sometimes even bar room pundits such as myself, call things just slightly incorrectly.

Home games are few and far between at the moment and apart from a nice little friendly contest in midweek against the Samoan national side this is our last time to grace the mighty Twickenham Stoop before Boxing day (apart from a couple of A team fixtures), so seasons greetings to the lot of you.

Since our last home game we’ve travelled to Rotherham on a gloomy and windy south Yorkshire afternoon plus two trips to Sedgely Park on the fringes of Manchester.  With seven long distance away games now under our belts I’m not too surprised that the away support has just slightly dipped. However, it’s been really noticeable how vocal our away support has been and it’s important to keep it going with trips to Somerset, Devon and far away Bedfordshire all coming up. So what better way is there to travel to these games than by Quinssa coach? Bookings are being taken for a whole host of games and some involve meal and match ticket packages as well. All are very competitively priced and remember that parking near some grounds is very difficult. So either visit the Quinssa desk before the game (details are below) or visit our web site for details and contacts etc.

Last Thursday Quinssa had another of our meet the coaches evening. Our next big event is the Academy evening on Tuesday 31st January where you’ll be able to learn more about the academy and our scheme for supporting it.

Plenty of information about Quinssa, the independent supporters’ organisation, can be found at our web site on www.quinssa.org.uk or you can visit our desk in the East stand before the game. You can book for coaches, chat to committee members and it’s a chance for you to express your views. You can also hand in any toys you have for the Plymouth Albion hospital appeal which we are whole heartedly supporting and there’s even more going on, you can find out about our sensational car sharing arrangements.

In closing, please try to get to your seat in plenty of time, then stay in it until breaks in play and please don’t smoke pitch side. So enjoy the game, cheer Quins on, make all the Pirates’ fans welcome and stay long enough to enjoy the fabulous match day experience to the full.
