Programme Notes 2005/6
Bedford Blues
It’s been a dramatic time since our last home game against Sedgely Park. No one quite expected it on that day, but with other results going in our favour by about ten to five we were champions of ND1. So our sojourn outside of the Premiership has just been one season. Short and very sweet. A week later target number two was achieved when we beat today’s opponents Bedford over the road in Whitton to win the Powergen Trophy. Sandwiched in between was yet another impressive performance by a very young A team who beat Sarries to win the Guinness A League (South). Since then they have gone on to win the first leg of the final against Leicester Tigers. The second leg on Monday promises to be an equally close affair.
Isn’t it great to be reporting trophies and victories? The on field performances have been enhanced by cracking away support all season and greatly improved home attendances. So everyone who has trekked to the far corners of the country have played their bit too. In the same way that we expect the team to be improved for next season, so too does our support. Our regular home crowds will need to be boosted if we are to create the atmosphere to turn our beloved patch into “fortress Stoop”.
Today we welcome Bedford for our third meeting of the season and the second time in three weeks. Both games so far have been close tense affairs with Bedford playing a very forward orientated game. Let’s hope the game gets the chance to flow and ends up a bit more of a spectacle than the last time we met.
Even though this is the penultimate game of the season for the first team and all the key issues are decided, there’s still plenty to play for. So noise and support today is just as important as ever.
There’s two big events left for Quinssa this season. On the social side there’s the London Boat trip on Saturday 15th of July. Precise details will go out to our members in the next few mailings and will probably be available from our desk today in the East stand by the stage. Basic details are that the boat will start and end in the Tower Bridge area, will cost £15 for Quinssa members and £20 for non-members. The ticket price will include some food. Initially bookings will be for Quinssa members and their families first. So book the date now.
The second big event is our AGM. A few sharp eyed people did spot that I craftily got the date wrong in the last programme, it is of course Thursday 8th June (and most definitely not July). We are guaranteed to have a few changes to the committee as I’m standing down after three years and kilted Rob is relocating to the rugby wilderness of the east Midlands. Now’s the time to have a think to see whether you have those quirky skills a supporter’s association needs. If you want to have a chat about things and discuss what is involved then pop along to our Quinssa desk before the game.
So make use of all the facilities all the way around the ground, get to your seat early and please respect those around you. Don’t forget that it’s now against the ground rules to smoke in your seat. So enjoy your day and support the champions all the way to the final whistle.
See you at the Quinssa stand.
