Programme Notes 2005/6
Coventry
Today we welcome Coventry to the Twickenham Stoop for round nineteen in ND1. We home that their fans, management and players enjoy the day and hope that the weather is a lot better than it was when we travelled up to Butts Park Arena.
Last weekend was dramatic for Quins and the global Quins’ brand. With Bedford stumbling at Kenwyn against the Pirates and with a harder task in front of them this weekend at Rotherham, the division is now reduced to one and a bit teams. Everything is still in our destiny, a rare position to be in in competitive sport.
A word of praise and sympathy has to go to Doncaster. Seven promotions in ten years have got them to ND1 for the first time. They have a small mountain to climb to stay in the division, but they have very impressive facilities, heaps of potential and I wish them luck for the rest of the season.
The travelling support at Doncaster braved the drizzle and the mud, drank and ate well, and cheered on a depleted side to what was an impressive win. Although the penalty count against us was a tad high, particularly in the first half. If you haven’t been able to get to many away games this season your chances are fast disappearing. We have only four competitive games on the road left, three in the league and one in the cup. So why not travel on a Quinssa coach? They are a great fun and good way to meet fellow rugby fans. They are also very child friendly. You can book a place or two either from our table in the East stand before the game or via our web site at www.quinssa.org.uk.
Since our last home game Quinssa hosted a very successful Academy evening. Quinssa has committed itself to long term support of the Academy and the youngsters within it. More details are available on our web site. Our next big event is the evening with Ashley Rowden, one of the country’s top referees, on 14th March. More details to follow.
Quins RL had their first home game back at the Stoop last week. Something the St Helens fans brought to the day was the awesome noise. Over two thousand of them packed in one end produced a wall of noise from start to end. We are traditionally a quiet crowd, I’m sure with that level of noise behind the team it would make a big difference and turn the Stoop into a more intimidating place.
Quinssa is the independent supporters’ organisation. We organise and run a host of things, further details can be found on our website or visit our desk for the match in the East stand. It’s by the stage almost under one of the television sets.
So enjoy the day and make full use of the facilities in and around the stands. Please get to your seat in plenty of time and try to remain in it whilst the game is in progress. Lastly, cheer, shout, applaud and clap our team on.
See you at the Quinssa stand.
