Programme Notes 2004/5
London Wasps
This afternoon we welcome our home counties neighbours London Wasps to The Stoop for the return Zurich premiership League game. We hope their supporters, management and team enjoy their day in the capital’s only top flight rugby club.
Divided loyalties?
This really is a true local derby as both sides share the same rugby DNA having come from the same club that split into two. The rest, as they say, is history. Although I’ve always felt that a certain Mr Dallaglio had something lacking. Alright I know he is a World Cup winner, a Heineken Cup winner, an iconic figure well beyond the borders of rugby and plenty else, but ….. he isn’t a Quin and deep down, I suspect that this will be his biggest career regret! He’s one of those players that opposing fans love to hate but really wish he was wearing our colours. A bit like Jonno really.
A year to remember
Another year gone and there’s plenty to reflect on. Probably less ups than downs but we ended the year at the start of something big. With such a tight building schedule some changes to the ground have already happened. The West Stand bar has gone and after today so will the rest of the stand. In under a year we really will have one of the best purpose built rugby stadia in the country, it might even be the best. So whilst some history goes, the memories will remain and they in turn will be replaced by bigger and better days.
Over 500
Quinssa’s membership now stands at over 500 and continues to grow week on week. We’ve had a good year and will shortly be announcing a couple of big events for the coming months.
Coach travel
I’m handing over the reigns to the coaches to John Hartley. So the recent Bath game was my last one, early print deadlines mean I don’t know whether Santa gave me my wish of a seven try Powergen demolition. However, as I was unsuccessful last year with Santa (I ask you, what was unreasonable about asking for a “hit” on your line manager?) perhaps he delivered this year. To book a place on the Leicester coach at the end of the month either contact John on coaches@quinssa.org.uk or come to the Quinssa desk before the game.
Quinssa calendars
If you haven’t already acquired one then rush to the Quinssa stand and buy one of our Quinssa calendars. They are fantastic and feature some photographs taken by some of our members. I can guarantee at one photo you’ll go Aaaahhh! Cracking value at £10 to Quinssa members.
What’s Quinssa?
Quinssa is the independent fans organisation now in it’s second year. We’ve a web site at www.quinssa.org.uk packed with information. Quinssa primarily organise away travel, arrange a host of social events, support the club and raise a fair bit for charity along the way.
Quinssa stand
If you’re around before the game then pop into the East Stand bar and by the stage you’ll see our table. It’s a chance to meet and greet other fans, book for coaches and find out more about us.
Have a really great day, wander around the whole ground (as you won’t be able to do it for a while after today), take time to enjoy the great match day experience here at The Stoop, respect the kickers and remember, a professional rugby is not just for Christmas, it’s for life! Here’s to 2005.
