Saturday 13th September 2003: v London Wasps

Get in to the spirit with Quinssa

Another season starts here at The Stoop today with the visit of our near rivals London Wasps. You probably won’t need reminding, but I will, we did the double over the home counties side last year. The games between us are normally close and exciting, we hope that today is no different! We welcome the players, management and supporters and hope that they enjoy their visit!

Much has changed since last season. New faces have arrived and some familiar ones have left. This will be Quinssa’s first full season and just as much is expected from us as it is from the team. Quinssa, Quins’ Supporters Association, was launched towards the end of last season. Our aims and plenty of information can be found on our web site at quinssa.org.uk. Membership has continued trickling up over the summer and has jumped up following the highly successful summer BBQ. A new format this year for this event saw the addition of a variety of stalls on the stage in the East Stand bar. The Quinssa stand did a roaring trade all night with many new members recruited. A big thank you to everyone who helped out. Since last season we have run a Treasure Hunt around Twickenham, organized travel for fans around France for the preseason friendlies and sent a coach to the Bank holiday Monday game at Newport Gwent Dragons.

Quinssa has also started fund raising in tandem with the BPA, the British Paralympic Association. We will write a lot more at length in later programmes about this organization, a good introduction can be found at comeallwithin.co.uk with a link from the front page.

Yet again the season has a lop sided feel to it, with seven home league games before the end of November and only four away in that time. There’s also a variety of cup games before Christmas including two legs against Dulciora El Salvador from Spain.

Away travel: Quinssa are running coaches to Rotherham on the Saturday 20th September (ko 2.45pm leaving The Stoop at 9.15am) and Saracens on Sunday 5th October ko 3pm. If you’re interested on going on either of these trips then email me on will@quinssa.org.uk. Unfortunately we won’t be able to run a coach to Leeds, it’s a Friday night, but it does fall in half-term, so an outing north to a very friendly family orientated club could be on the agenda?

Following Leeds on our travels we have Bath. This is normally a very popular trip. However, and there always seems to be a however, the game falls on the day of the World Cup final. Plans have to be made well before we know who’s in it. As the game starts at about 9.30am proper time we are suggesting that we leave at 7am, thus arriving in the historic city in plenty of time to watch the match, or, if you so wish, in time to do some serious shopping. Your comments on this suggestion would be greatly appreciated very quickly!

We are also in the process of putting together plans for the trip to Dulciora El Salvador, who play about two hours travel north from Madrid. If you are interested in details or want more general information then contact Duncan on prof@quinssa.org.uk.

Quinssa plans to run a wide range of events throughout the winter months. A top referee has already agreed to come to do a question and answer session and a host of other celebrities including Ian Robertson and Will Carling will also be appearing at other events we are organizing. Quinssa members will shortly be receiving details of all these events and more.
