Saturday 11th October 2003:  v Newcastle Falcons

A big welcome to the players, management and supporters of Newcastle Falcons. We hope that they enjoy their day down south.

Watching a televised game coming from Welford Road there was one statistic that made me a little envious. It wasn’t a full house, but there still was over 15,000 present. That equates to, two home games for us, equals one for them, double the income. Underlining the need for much greater capacity here. There are two options for rugby clubs who want to expand, either go down the football ground route. Thereby playing home games on a Friday or Sunday as Irish, Sale, Wasps and others have done, or develop what you’ve got as Northampton and Newcastle have done and Glaws and us plan to do. Incidentally, it was very nice of Glaws to write to me this week asking me to help fund their ground development. Not once, but twice! I think I’ll politely decline.

Last week we sent a packed coach to Saracens, which was our third coach of the year after Gwent somethingorother and Rotherham Titans. The trip was a lot less eventful than Rotherham and much quicker as well. It’s good to see so many new faces on the coaches this season, I hope all of you will want to return for another journey in the course of the season.

Our next two trips will be Bath on World Cup final day, leaving The Stoop at 7am, watching the game in the Swindon area then continuing on to the game and Gloucester the day after Boxing Day. If you’re interested in either game then please see me today (I normally lurk around the East Stand), email me on will@quinssa.org.uk or even call me 020 8643 2145.

The numbers are constantly swelling for our Spanish trip in early December to Cetransa UEMC. If you want details of how to get there and where to stay then contact Duncan on prof@quinssa.org.uk or see him today near a bar somewhere.

I’ve had a massive response to the Quinssa members’ questionnaire. Over eighty have been returned and I’m currently wading through the sordid details! A few snap shots should be ready for next week’s programme.

The first of a series of Quinssa events coming up is the Academy Evening on 30th October. This will be a chance to find out how the academy works and what it’s like to be in it. Full details will be available next week and will be emailed to all Quinssa members. So book the evening now.

You can join Quinssa, Quins’ Supporters Association, by finding any committee member in the main bar or by visiting Quinssa.org.uk and downloading the application form.So in closing, don’t forget to wander all the way around the ground to take in the full extent of the culinary changes this season. Enjoy the day, respect the kickers and raise the roof!
