Auction: A Quins Signed Shirt for the British Heart Foundation
Closing date 24th November 2006
Christmas is coming, so how’s this for a novel present idea for the rugby nut in your house? As members of Quinssa and sharp-eyed Come All Within regulars will have noticed, Quinssa have been publicising the efforts of James Bruce & other Saints fans in raising funds for the British Heart Foundation

An annual event, “Saints With Heart” has, over the past 5 years raised more than £50,000 – and lots of that has come from supporters of GP clubs. This year, James adopted Quins as the GP club he wanted to link to for this appeal. On Saturday October 28th, he was up before the crack of dawn to walk the 17 miles from Wolverton in North Buckinghamshire, along the Grand Union Canal towpath to reach Northampton in time for the kick off of Saints’ Heineken Cup match with Borders Reivers.
He started off the walk with a shirt donated by Quinssa member Rob White. Rob then met James at the halfway point of the walk and handed over to James a Quins shirt signed by the squad – Andrew Mehrtens and all.
We are pleased to say that James not only completed the 17 mile walk with minimal damage to himself but that he also managed to sprint the last few hundred meters to cross the finishing line first ahead of a cheeky chappie wearing a Tigers shirt!
So, you now have a shirt that not only is signed by the Quins squad but that also finished ahead of Tigers! OK, but it gets better …..
James then arranged for that same shirt to be signed by the Northampton Saints squad after their game with Reivers that day.
So now we have a shirt with the Quins squads’ autographs, which also beat a Tigers shirt, and which is also signed by the likes of Carlos Spencer, Steve Thompson and Mark Robinson and, what is more, was worn to the Stoop by a Saints fan as he witnessed a fine Quins victory against his own side.
James’ walk raised over £1,300 for BHF and we’d like to help him raise that a little higher by helping him auction off this shirt.
So what am I bid? You have to admit – it’s a unique item. There can’t be many shirts with the signatures of two of the most famous All Blacks?
You can bid by e-mail at bids@quinssa.org.uk or in person at the Quinssa Stand before the home game against Worcester on Friday night or at the Quinssa Meet The Academy Evening on Wednesday 22nd November.
The time date for bids is midday on Friday 24th November.
